To obtain a handgun purchase permit.

A license to purchase is required to purchase a handgun in Michigan. You may obtain a license to purchase from the Almont Police Department if you are a resident of the Village or Township of Almont, between the hours of 8am-4pm Monday thru Friday. You must have a valid Michigan Drivers License or Michigan ID card. You will be required to fill in an application and take a test. The Department will run a criminal history and then you will be issued a purchase permit. You will have 10 days to use the permit. After you purchase the handgun bring the handgun and permit back to the Police Department and a safety inspection will be done and it will be registered with the State of Michigan. There is a $15.00 fee for the registration.
